Serious Health Problems
Some of the causes of baldness may represent serious health problems. That's why it's important to talk about hair loss with your doctor.
The Medical Side:
- Some hair loss is the result of a type of immune disorder known as Alopecia Areata
- Chronic (disorders that last a long time, often years), and systemic (affecting the whole body) conditions can affect the hair such as:
- One form of Lupus
- Abnormal kidney and liver function
- Hypothyroidism - underactive thyroid or Hyperthyroidism - overactive thyroid
If you're experiencing hair loss, see a doctor. He or she will want to order some basic blood tests to rule out any medical cause of the condition.
